On Compassion
I have been thinking today of Compassion.
Being kind to others even if they are unkind to me.
Recognising that if someone treats me badly, it is only a reflection on their own inward turmoil.
Seeing that a disrespectful person, a negative person, a rude person
must be living in an unhappy world of their own.
A negative mind can be a prison for the person who lives with it.
A person who does not realise that joy is a choice, and instead longs for physical conditions or circumstances which will satisfy their quest for happiness. The satisfaction from physical items is usually short lived.
I realise that in myself I hold resentment towards people who have hurt me in the past. I am beginning to learn compassion towards them. Their own world must be cluttered with insecurities in order to hurt others consciously.
Oooh, just had an ah-ha moment. I had a flashback of reading Ruth Ostrow's "Thanking the Nemesis" - thanking individuals from your past for the way they have helped you open discoveries to your self - to what you want to be, what you don't want to be, what you want, and what you don't want.
I am a way down the road from being able to spread out my hand out wholeheartedly to others without fear of it being knocked back.
But I am learning. And I am Growing.
Every day.
