i love leunig

This afternoon we went to a bookstore, and I came across a new book ~
"When I talk to you: A cartoonist talks to God"
by Michael Leunig ~ a beautiful cartoonist and poet.

I flicked it open, and there on the page
were words my heart spoke and yearned for
my eyes welled... they made sense,
especially considering the current political *cough* environment.

The words spoke... and I wanted to share them with you.
His words are not complete without his cartoons either...

God help us to change.
To change ourselves and to change our world.
To know the need for it.
To deal with the pain of it.
To feel the joy of it.
To undertake the journey without understanding the destination.
The art of gentle revolution.
Amen.

Let it go.
Let it out.
Let it all unravel.
Let it free and it can be
A path on which to travel.

Dear God,

We pray for another way of being:
another way of knowing.

Across the difficult terrain of our existence
we have attempted to build a highway
and in doing so have lost our footpath.

God lead us to our footpath:
lead us where in simplicity
we may move at the speed of natural creatures
and feel the earth's love beneath our feet.

Lead us there where step-by-step
we may feel the movement of creation in our hearts.
And lead us there where side-by-side
we may feel the embrace of the common soul.

Nothing can be loved at speed.
God lead us to the slow path;
to the joyous insights of the pilgrim;
another way of knowing:
another way of being.

Amen.

When the heart
Is cut or cracked or broken
Do not clutch it

Let the wound lie open
Let the wind
From the good old sea blow in
To bathe the wound with salt
And let it sting

Let a stray dog lick it
Let a bird lean in the hole and sing
A simple song like a tiny bell
And let it ring

~

I am so very touched by his words and his magic.

Did this guy write and illustrate a book about a caterpillar turning into a butterfly? His artwork seems familiar. I remember long years ago, a friend had a book with pictures like this, I read it and loved it, but never found out what it was called. How on earth could I. I'm going to look up this Leunig fellow. Thanks.
